No after market screen required unless you tour a lot in cold and rain conditions. The stock -10 wind spoiler worked fantastic up over 100 mph. Now the -09 has it as well, although I’ve heard the -09 headlights do a pretty poor job. I thought 100% LED lighting was also huge. Once you have that, you’ll be hard pressed to give it up. One thing I loved on the -10 was the electronic cruise control. More bells and whistles are becoming available on the -09, so the gap is shrinking a bit. Many asked me if the -10 was worth the higher price tag and I answered yes without hesitation. The extra weight of the FZ-10 over the -09 provides the impression of a level up in build quality as well. The only engine I liked more was a Tuono V-4. That impressed me the most on my first ride. The crossplane triple is an outstanding engine and the crossplane four simply takes it to the next level. The wind at 140 mph on a naked bike is pretty brutal. I never felt the need to go 155 mph on it. ![]() All the others are putting out 150-160 hp and getting a tune on your NA version -10 will easily yield the same results. ![]() The reason is because Yamaha detuned the North American models. Dyno runs put the stock -10 at 130 mph, but it’s rated at 160. But, it should come as no surprise given the bigger engine. As soon as it hit 90 mph, the front wheel lifted about one foot off the road and started rising gradually until I let off. I cracked the throttle one time in fourth gear at forty mph. The -10 really would turn on at wot while in its upper rpms. The wheelbase on the -10 is shorter and it corners noticably better than the stock -09. The -10 is approximately 45 lbs heavier, but I never noticed a bit of difference at any point or time. Many believe the -09 has more low end punch where the -10 takes over in the upper rpms which would explain how closely they did the quarter mile runs. Both bikes had unaltered tunes and exhausts. ![]() The -09 hit 132 mph pretty close to the same point the -10 hit 142 mph. I used to turn onto a wide open stretch of highway on my way home and liked to do my zero to max speed run within the first quarter mile or so. Traded my -09 for a -10 and have a few observations.
